I hate to be negative but has Ricciardo lost it. I mean in races where he starts 5th he ends up 7th or worse and only lands a podium when others crash out of the race that are in front of him. Now sure Renault is not the fastest car but sometimes one has to look at the driver too. Next year we shall see when he assumedly goes to a team with a faster car and if he fails there then its obviously the driver and not the car.

Renault have a shit chassis.
Renault motor is where it should be in relation to championship standings (McLaren and Renault) but it’s the works team who are way behind. Never recovered when the hybrid era came in.

Ricciardo has a mistake or two in him but with a stronger car, has way more pros.

I remember going to see the Singapore F1 in September 2019 and part of the package was going to a cocktail party where Mark Webber was guest speaker and he spoke of Ricciardo then and how he felt he had made a mistake in going to Renault then and generally his comments came to fruition so we shall see if McClaren suits his driving better. . Mark Webber claimed that the French were lazy and couldn't be bothered spending money to make the Renault a faster car and in his words the French preferred to go out for long lunches lol

Ricciardo is the best late braker on the grid, with insane car control. Problem is that in order to take advantage of that you need a car with decent pace on the straights, as well as decent aero.

Give Ricciardo that and you get results. Give him a car that's sloppy in those areas, and you won't play to his best assets.
