Why is the brake (or is it break?) higher than the accelerator?

If there's an emergency the micro seconds it takes to lift your foot off the accelerator and press down on the brake could be the difference between life or death so I never understood why all cars have it higher than the accelerator.

There's obviously a reason. Anyone know why?

Different pedal pressure perhaps?. Or that brake has a master cylinder, whereas accelerator is either cable or electronic.

Not sure all cars are like that though.

So you can identify what is what. If they're both the same height then you're more likely to confuse the two.

That's fair enough but my logic is the accelerator should be slightly higher than the brake. Quicker down motion than a release and press down on a higher level.

I think it would be slightly more uncomfortable if the accelerator was slightly raised..lol
