News BREAKING: Mulitalo denied Origin exemption as QRL blunder laid bare

Ronaldo Mulitalo has been denied an exemption to play State of Origin, the Cronulla winger has announced on his social media channels.

The winger, who was a late call-up for game two last Sunday, withdrew from the interstate clash when concerns were raised about his eligibility.

Under Origin rules players must be born in their state of choice, have lived their prior to their 13th birthday or had a father who played for the state.

Mulitalo did not qualify having acknowledged that fact in his first two NRL contracts, as reported by foxsports.com.au earlier this week.

However, the Queensland Rugby League allowed him to play in Under 18 and Under 20 Origin matches in the past which under the NRL’s rules made him eligible to play senior Origin.

Mulitalo wrote on his own Twitter account: “Hey team. Thought I’d let everyone know before the media does. I’ve officially been denied an exemption to represent Queensland going forward. This isn’t the way I pictured my time ending in the maroon jersey. Learnt many lessons in this journey but most importantly became a better man wearing this jersey. Here’s to new opportunities. #qlder.”

QRL screwed up letting him play there in the past.

Should be either where you are born, or where you played your first graded game (e.g HG Matts/SG Ball/Flegg or equivalent). Nothing else.

yeah I mean 13 years of age doesn't make a location your "state of origin" by any means..

they're pushing this as a Ronaldo sob story but there have been Queensland players born and raise that have missed out on rep honours coming through the grades because of the screw up
