The Bulldogs have suffered a huge blow with aggressive forward Jack Hetherington ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury.

Hetherington suffered the injury early in last night's last-gasp lost to Manly at Brookvale and officials were hoping it was just a minor tear.

But scans this morning have indicated that Hetherington suffered major damage to the shoulder and will need a full reconstruction.

He will undergo surgery later this week but the recovery period from a shoulder reco is at least nine months, ending his season after just three weeks.

Hetherington's take-no-prisoners style gets him into trouble at times but he is a real impact forward whose big hits and ability to break the line make him a key figure in the Dogs' pack.

News of his injury comes less than an hour after the Eels lost talented forward Ray Stone for the year with a knee injury.

Fuck ... that's not good news with RFM delayed injury return and Doorey still out.

Might be time to bring up Topine and see if he can fire.

Nothing on Dogs site about this, only NRL.com..

So Ray Stone scores winning try for Parra and blows out his ACL in the process, what a crazy end to the game.

Now we just wait to see what punishment Barnett cops, but he's referred straight to judiciary meaning its greater than a Grade 3.

Confirmed on Gus's Twitter earlier.

By all accounts Jack works super hard so it's really sad to see given he'd started the season really well.

Yeah that Ray Stone situation sucks too that was such a good spectacle.

I reckon Barnett will get 8 weeks.

Yeah Barnett 6-8 weeks I reckon and it'd be fair.

Hope Jack can come back bigger, better, and stronger than ever. Was it a dud tackle that did it, or wasn't it that noticable during the game?

Having said that similar offences have had worse outcomes.

Yeah he just landed badly.. it didn't look heaps bad live and he played on for 15 minutes but you could see he was hurting before he went off. Sucks.

Poor guy.
Know from first hand experience how fucked up a full reconstruction and recovery can be.
