The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs can confirm that Jake Averillo will depart the Club at the end of the 2023 season.
Averillo, will join the Dolphins from 2024 onwards. In the interim, he remains committed to seeing the season out at the Bulldogs.
"This is an extraordinary opportunity for Jake," said Bulldogs General Manager of Football, Phil Gould. "He's a local junior who has done a wonderful job for the Club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future."

Averillo to join Dolphins from 2024

The Dolphins have snagged another injection of speed for their roster with the signing of Bulldogs’ flyer Jake Averillo.
Averillo will join the Dolphins at the end of this season on a three-year deal that will take him through until at least the end of the 2026 season.
An outside back with plenty of pace, Averillo will join Broncos’ English international Herbie Farnworth in strengthening the Dolphins in 2024.

At just 22 years of age, Averillo already has an impressive 69 matches of NRL experience behind him after making his debut in 2020.
Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said Averillo’s signing was another example of the Dolphins building their roster for the immediate future.
“Jake is a really good acquisition for the Dolphins,” said Reader.
He will add speed and class to our backline stocks and at the age of 22 the best years of his career are right in front of him.
“The Dolphins always said we would steadily strengthen our list in the coming years and I believe we have achieved that for season 2024.
“We already have a very competitive team and have exceeded many people's expectations with our team still in the hunt for a top eight position with 10 rounds to go, and we are going to be adding Jake, Herbie Farnworth and Tom Flegler next season.
“The Dolphins will only be stronger next year and that is something for our members and supporters to be excited about.”

Averillo has scored seven tries in 14 appearances for the Bulldogs in 2023, including two-try efforts against both the Dragons and Raiders, and averages over 100 running metres a match.
The Bulldogs’ Rookie of the Year in 2020, Averillo gained his first representative jersey in September last year when he represented the Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea in Brisbane.

He will join the Dolphins when pre-season training begins in November.

Another one we'll probably end up regretting.

All this bullshit the club peddle about local juniors, and we seem to let them all go the minute they show any potential.

It's the best thing for both parties. Averillo will thrive behind a big team, where as our focus should be on bigger bodies like Xerri, Burns and Skelton. We get dominated right across the park including the backline. I like the kid but it is what it is unfortunately!

His defence is sorely lacking and a lack of improvement is likely why he's been allowed to move on, rather than retain him.

Possibly, but Alamoti defends even worse, and is soooooo slooooooow.

I suppose the thing with Alamoti is that he's still a kid and has plenty of upside.. even Slater was saying he'd choose Alamoti out of the two based on potential. Jake has been in first grade for a while now and still gets beaten easily in defence.

Heard 800k per year, for 3 years today discussed by someone close enough to the family, that they actually talk to each other about stuff like this, apparently.
Take it with a bag of salt though.
If true, no wonder we didn't compete!
Does that mean if his defence and line attack equals his open space attack, he earns 800k for each of those staple footy ingredients as well?
2.4m a year with that stupid logic!!!
If true, and definitely is an 'if', there is no way he's worth that coin for only a third of a footy player after 70-odd games imo!

It's hard to imagine a Wayne Bennett coached team would offer Averillo that type of money I mean that's the first offer that it's been reported Panthers are offering Dylan Edwards.. they must be signing him as their fullback if true.

If we get Taaffe it will be on less money and for arguably a better player.

It's a shame to see a Dogs junior leave but it is what it is.

49 meters at half time... Dylan Edwards would have almost triple that... later!!

Once again all this betting on football games is corrupting the refs every single week a penalty here and there. We hold the broncos til half time then its better to let them win and make good odds on the tab etc hence we get held back when on attack and nothing done about it not even a penalty. The other big clubs with money to throw around will always beat the others every time

once again we fail to score after half time is it a fitness thing or a mental thing

Got to be fitness.

When you watch us it looks like we play in slow motion. Mental is then a result because their confidence is severely shot

That is the only reason I can think they're paying him that much, if true.
800k is FB money.
Hammer being moved to centre might give it substance too.

I wonder if Wayne was watching today. Hate to say it, because he's OK, but he's basically Meaney 2.0

I am liking this petition of a change of the guard at Belmore... there's no urgency to play for the jersey and that starts at the top
