The transfer saga of Matt Dufty finally appears to have reached a conclusion, with one side securing the flyer’s signature on a one-year deal.

Matt Dufty has been linked with a whole host of NRL clubs this season, but his search for a new club appears to be over.

During the Fox Sports broadcast of the Canterbury Bulldogs’ clash against the Sydney Roosters, sideline reporter James Hooper broke the news about Dufty’s playing future.

“As we know, rugby league never sleeps and this latest twist confirms it,” said Hooper.

Dufty will link up with Trent Barrett’s side from next season.

“Matt Dufty has signed a one-year deal with Canterbury Bankstown (Bulldogs). That is right, Matt Dufty — the St George Illawarra fullback — will be at Canterbury Bankstown next season.
“It is only a one-year deal.”

Steve Roach posed an interesting question on the broadcast about the Bulldogs’ intentions with the fullback, commenting: “Does that show you that the Bulldogs aren’t really that sure if they only sign him for one year?”

Dufty was an attendee of the now-infamous BBQ hosted by Paul Vaughan that saw the latter’s $800,000 per year contract torn to shreds.

The Sydney Morning Heraldreported that Dufty ran 5km home when the police arrived at the party, and the Bulldogs will no doubt expect the fullback to clean up his act by the time he dons the blue and white jersey.

We'd have to be close to one of the quickest backlines for 2022 when you think about it.

JAC and Dufty are flyers (sure Dufty has been caught by Reimis Smith before, but still). Naden and Cotric are no slouches either.

Halves I think we can sort out internally, and possibly hooker. Bolstering the front / second row and releasing dead wood there is probably what we need. Stimson, Waddell are both not the answer. We need damaging second rowers like Kikau, etc. We saw yesterday how a decent second rower (Toupinoua ?) was able to get around centres.

If we could land like TPJ and Taumalolo, we'd probably be set for 2022. Then if we get an experienced hooker so be it.
