Round 12 Team News: Jackson & Hetherington return for Panthers clash

bulldogs.com.au - Tue 25 May 2021, 03:56 PM

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will welcome back skipper Josh Jackson and prop Jack Hetherington for this Saturday's clash with the Panthers at Panthers Stadium (3:00PM AEST).

Jackson (calf) and Hetherington (suspension), will bolster a Bulldogs side that has made some additional changes for the match.

These have seen :
- Jack Hetherington return to the starting line-up to replace Ava Seumanufagai who will return to the bench
- Jackson Topine will start at hooker in place of Sione Katoa who has taken an early guilty plea for a crusher tackle against the Titans and will miss one game
- Josh Jackson will return at lock, meaning Adam Elliott will move to the second row, with Chris Smith dropping out after also taking an early guilty plea for a crusher tackle and missing one game
- On the interchange bench Joe Stimson has been named with Renouf Atoni and Corey Waddell dropping back to the extended bench

*Nick Meaney will play his 50th overall club game for the Bulldogs this weekend

Waddell, Atoni, Katoa out.

Dietz and Topine should give us a nice punch from dummy half.

I reckon Wakehams on his last chance as well.

is Atone injured or replaced?

I just don't think Wakeham has the fire in the belly to be a regular first grader

Extended bench aka dropped.

NSW Cup is on Foxtel 12:40pm that same day too (so earlier than NRL). Ogden named starting prop alongside Atoni, Katoa (Tui) named on wing to start, and Waddell named starting lock.

So all dropped.

Flanagan probably 18th man, although I'm not keen on Stimson. Would prefer Stimson 18th man, and Flanagan on the bench (incase Wakeham chokes and to keep both keen).

that's very interesting.. I feel like Waddell could be a much better player and we've seen better from him in 2019.. actually Manly in general failed to fire last year and I suspect a lot of it had to do with losing both their hookers.. our forwards might not be as big of an issue as it would seem if we could sign a hooker

Atoni has been one of our main go forward metre eaters of late.
WTF drop him?

Atoni - making average metres, and defensive mistakes. I feel he debuted probably too early.

Waddell is the Woolies Essentials version of Capewell. Flashes of brilliance but has issues with consistency.

Capewell on the other hand is constantly brilliant with flashes of inconsistency. BUT has had both knees go in the past.

Topine NEEDS to make his mark this game .. him and Deitz.

I think Atoni just needed a good senior group to inspire him and show him the way.

Waddell strikes me as another guy who just doesn't have that fire in the belly.. another nice guy

I do wonder though if Capewell would be one of those Allen types who gets forgotten about in a struggling team

Topine brings good energy but I'd like to see more from Deitz.. however I will say that Deitz is another guy being Bulldogs'd in that he's having to do a tonne of defence and isn't getting a whole lot of opportunity to do his thing with the ball because we're often on the back foot when he gets on the field

Topine and schoupp are the best thing to happen to this club in along time.

I agree.. they bring much needed energy.. think a lot of the main squad are mentally drained.. I really think if we can't get a younger hooker that we should try and get Hodgson for 2 years.. we desperately need strong senior players because our current senior players are busted
