The cynic in me thought the same thing . His form over past few years has been shocking .Hmmm the cynic in me wonders if JJ has voluntarily stepped aside for this game.

He can be a ball player, but not at lock, and the modern game is much faster than him. His best years were in second row rather than trying to be a link man playing both sides of the field.Problem is they're trying to make Jackson a ball player but it seems like they haven't spent enough time training for it.. He gave so many useless crash balls to Vaughan on the weekend. I feel for Jacko, he has aged as a player so fast at this club.. if he chased the glory in his prime he could have had a similar career to Finucane in my opinion. I just think Baz has got to give the ball playing duties to a natural ball player.

This in addition to JMK are two big issues at the club as Jacksons getting in the way too much (hence the one man out 4th tackle crap), and JMK rarely does anything except pass to the man immediately beside him. Even I could do that!
As such we become predictable in attack and hence shut down easily.
I can't remember the last time I saw JMK throw a dummy and then throw an opposite cut out ball.
I'd just like us to try Cook at #9, and put someone like Waddell or Stimson at #13, and see if that makes a difference to how we attack.
I think that's the problem at the moment. Barrett trying to coach the side like Cleary did at Panthers, and its not working. We need to coach the side how best fits the players abilities.I think they've gotta channel teams like Panthers and Melbourne who are at the opposition all the time.
Barrett has dropped players before, so he can do it. Maybe we aren't seeing something in Cooks game that has them concerned.Kent may be right about Barrett being a nice guy but maybe too nice to be a coach at a club that has lost its way. Maybe that is why he persists with JMK at hooker because he doesnt like being nasty and wielding the stick to players who don't perform but being nice doesnt guarantee your permanence as coach.

Would be nice to snag someone like Cameron Ciraldo alongside Barrett, but I doubt that would ever happen. If I was the club I'd talk to Barrett about getting Shane Flanagan in at the expense of Furner or Sandercock. Problem is not sure Flanno would take an assistant coaching role. HOWEVER, what if he worked with both Barrett AND Tangata-Toa across both grades as an assistant coach. That'd be beneficial to both guys.
I'm yet to know what Sandercock or Furner are actually doing at the club. I believe Furner works on defence though.
Surely you'd have to think Dan Ferris is on thin ice as well.
Fixed that for you Howard! This will get ugly
After watching NSW Cup today it's pretty clear why JMK holds the position at hooker.
Josh Cook and Ryan Gray (hooker and bench hooker) were both absolutely hopeless.
Cooks attack is on par with JMK, but defence is non existent. He'd get eaten alive in NRL. Making matters worse he gave away 2 back to back penalties in our 30m zone, directly resulting in a try.
Gray isn't much better. Defensively average and one man out passing.
Clubs best bet is probably Mahoney in 2023, with Ghantous still coming through the system (I think).
If we HAD to pick at the moment (because JMK got injured or had Covid), then we'd have to go with either BBO or Topine.
