Jury dismissed as unable to reach a verdict.

This is the problem with famous/sportsperson cases. You'll always have someone with bias/vendettas on the jury.

our justice system is also misaligned. at great cost to the taxpayers. We have to have many second trials because in order for a jury to convict in this country the jury must pass a guilty or not guilty unaminously meaning all 12 must say guilty or not guilty. Eg if 11 say guilty and one dissents then it is not a guilty verdict but a hung jury and therefore after much discussion and the other juror cannot go along with the others the judge has to order a retrial. Why can't we have a majority verdict one way or another and only when 6 say guilty and 6 say not guilty is the jury hung and it goes to retrial. chances of that happening are far less than a total majority to convict or find not guilty. I rest my case

You must have watched Liar Liar last night.

Fletcher: Isn't it true that your relationship with my client is entirely platonic? [to the judge] I object, your Honor!
Judge: To yourself?
Fletcher: Yeah. But I would like to rephrase the question. [to the witness] Mr. Falk, would I be accurate, if I described your relationship with Mrs. Cole as totally professional? [to the judge] I object, your Honor, and I move to strike!

In NSW, a majority verdict can be delivered if 11 of 12 jurors agree, in the other states and territories its 10 of 12.

I can't believe they're making him go through this. I don't like to victim shame but ffs it's a stupid case and the fact that after the event she seemed more upset about him being a user than anything nefarious going down is all but proof of that

Well if you're going to send nudes, and tell somebody you have never met that you want to have sex with them, and then invite them to your mother's house, what did she expect?? I honestly think that if there was no cut then nothing would of come of it.. yes he is a scum bag for doing that and then bouncing, but it doesn't mean anything illegal went down just because she was humiliated

Despite me not knowing anything about De Bellin's case this is kinda how I feel about that case, too. He's an absolute scum bag for cheating on his pregnant missus and absolutely deserves some sort of punishment but I don't really buy the broad's story. Plus, if he's found to be innocent he's been VERY harshly punished from a financial point of view by the mismanaged Nrlol.

I just can't see a jury coming to a verdict of guilty in either case, mainly in the JDB case because of the discrepancies in the victim's story... of course all the heroes will claim he gets off for being an NRL star if he does, but as a juror all you'd be thinking about is that if the version of events before and after, and even during don't match up to the evidence, how can we say for certain, without a doubt, that she's telling the truth.. I mean, if she can't even remember seeing the housemate, how can they believe that everything else that she says happened at around the same time is true. The only reason there isn't whole lot of sympathy for JDB is because of his circumstances, but imagine if it was one of the more decent guys of the NRL missing out on potentially the best years of their NRL career

True that mate. I just can't get over how many footy players are stupid meatheads. They know that people know them well and they're household names - especially someone like Hayne - yet they can't seem to get through their heads that nothing good comes of this stuff.

yeah for sure.. I mean, I understand that these guys have women offering themselves up to them on a frequent basis, but that doesn't mean you have to have such poor form... I know Jarred was on a bender but come on man leaving a cab running out the front of her house and trying to serenade her with Ed Sheiran Karaoke lol what even is that
