'Not NRL standard': Bulldogs lashed for defensive effort after thrashing from Sharks

Sonny Bill Williams has ripped the Bulldogs middle forwards for showing "not NRL standard" footy after a poor performance against Cronulla.

The Sharks ran out 48-10 winners, and were leading 30-4 at half time.

The former Bulldog was critical of the side's work in defence with Cronulla scoring several tries from the middle of the ground.

"They're pretty much giving the Dogs a hiding through the middle," he said on Nine's coverage.

"For the Dogs, if I'm Cameron Ciraldo, I'm pulling in my tight boys and I'm telling them you've got to pick your game up because that's not good enough, that's not NRL standard."

After Teig Wilton, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Cameron McInnes and Jack Williams all scored in the first half, the tries didn't stop there.

Thomas Hazelton - who is growing a cult hero status at Cronulla - scored his first NRL try in the second half while Briton Nikora and Jesse Ramien also went over to complete the demolition job.

For the Bulldogs, Kyle Flanagan scored against his old club in the first half and was noticeably pumped up, while Kurtis Morrin went over for a consolation try in the 71st minute.

Fullback Hayze Perham described the Bulldogs' performance as "unacceptable", a week after coach Cameron Ciraldo said his side's effort in defence "pisses me off" against the Eels.

"It was a tough night, it was pretty gutting, we train hard every day of the week and to come out and dish out something like that was just unacceptable," he said.

"We looked good at times there in certain parts of the match but at the end of the day it's just not good enough and we got beaten on some really poor effort errors."

The Bulldogs stay in 15th after the heavy defeat while the Sharks move into fourth.

Both sides will have the bye next week.

I didn't bother watching the game, but was suprised to see it didn't hit 50.
