That’s what I thought... then when I try to delete files from windows.old it says that it needs permission from admin

There's a way to do it by taking ownership of it but it's not really worth doing as it could cause problems.

Really all I'm after is a way to do stuff without being prompted to get admin permission before doing it all the time.

Change User Account Control settings for Windows 10.
