Holy smokes. I've seen some poor calls over the years, but this was one of the worst I have seen in the history of the NRL.

Literally gifted the game to the Cowboys with a few seconds on the clock.

Gonna be really interesting to see how the NRL actually explain how they come to the decision that the player was taken out, when the Tigers player never once looked at the Titans player.

Not to mention challenging the decision outside of a break in play.

I was watching that and could not believe what I saw.. The very fact they were even allowed to challenge is an absolute joke and should give the NRL the option to reverse the two points. Obviously Tigers winning isn't great for us, although I can't see us getting the spoon, but they absolutely deserved the win, they were really good today and they wanted to get the win for Tamou in his 300th. Instead of celebrating a solid performance they will be sitting in the sheds absolutely gutted.

Totally agree, and sounds like Tigers are going to possibly launch legal action against NRL over it.

Hopefully the NRL will come to their senses and overturn the result. The game was over. Honestly I wish they'd just scrap the captain's challenge entirely.

Watching the live presser / briefing by Graham Annesley now (https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/07/25/graham-annesley-weekly-football-briefing---round-19/)

Was meant to be at 2:30pm and they brought it forwards.

Actual footage of the decision: https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/07/25/annesley-comfortable-with-challenge-not-penalty-following/

Basically addressed 3 issues:
ISSUE 1 - Wasn't the game over based on time?
ISSUE 2 - Why was the challenge allowed?
ISSUE 3 - Was the obstruction / escort call correct?

#1 He explained that the NRL timekeepers communicate with referee who has no bearing on the game time (taking into account stoppages, etc). The referee blew the whistle to call time off after the collision, not due to the game ending.
#2 He went on to say that the referee decides when to call a break in play, and that is why a challenge was allowed, because there was still time left in the game according to NRL timekeepers.
#3 Stated the call from the bunker was completely incorrect and was not in agreeance nor comfortable with the call made.

Be interesting to see now (with a full admission of an incorrect call from an NRL official (Graham), what Tigers next move is.

They've already got it on their website that they "want answers" (before the presser), and about the NRL getting it wrong.

The biggest impact will be on the top of the ladder. That win will very likely be the difference regarding Cowboys getting a home semi, which is a huge advantage.

Imagine a team losing out on 4th position and a second crack in the finals, all because of this decision.

and therein lies the problem with bad calls like this, and no method of correction, the ripple effect later on.

Or what about people who put money on teams finishing in certain positions?
