Can't you play those old XP games on Win 7 using XP compatibility?
Yeah some of them, but not all. Heck some of them are Win95/98 games, running on WinXP.

I've got quite a lot of old games actually. Should post up some photos of them.

When I mod GTA IV the first thing I'd do is add a graphics mod. I hate the brown filter it seems to have.

Have seen a few graphics mods which remove that filter, make it brighter and adds a lot more colour.
If you have a screenshot of what it looks like I wouldn't mind seeing it :D

I think the brown filter is there to give it that real New York concrete jungle feel.

So I took my rig out and set her up yesterday. The beauty of only buying a computer is that you only need to unplug the connections from the old device then plug them in the new one.

Anyway I went to install SR3. I actually shit you not, it literally took 5 seconds (if that) to install. I simply unplugged my external hard drive after copying the files over and it was done. I thought the computer was taking the piss from me... THEN I STARTED THE GAME AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY.

5 fucking seconds to install SR3? FMD that's good. That's better than good. That's epically insane.

Oh... and the game runs brilliantly too. Nice and smooth. No problems yet, the rig is running better than I expected.

Nice. Great to hear. You've got an almost identical set up to mine and I can honestly say I've never had any issue running any game (except X-Plane 11 but you need NASA to build you a computer to run that).

The only game I've had an issue with is Borderlands 3 for some reason. Can't get it better than 1080/30 fps or 1440/30 fps. If I want 60 fps I have to run it on 720. I'm not doing that, FFS.

The beauty of playing games like Assassin's Creed in 60 FPS is amazing. So smooth.

Well the thing is as humans our eyes can only register 29.97 fps so I think if you're your game at 30 then that's pretty good. As long as it's smooth, that's all that matter. Oh... and also that you're not putting too much strain on your system lol.

When you play borderlands 3 is it smooth at 1080?

That's a myth BTW.

We can only register images at about 30 fps. Meaning that above 30 fps we can't see the different individual frames, but we can tell the difference in regard to smoothness and our response time. Most humans can see the difference up to at least 150 fps. Meaning if you saw something running at 120 fps and something running at 144 fps you could tell the difference. Some can see the difference between 800 fps and 1,000 fps.

Also, our response times allow for quicker response on quicker fps. So if you run at 100 fps and switch to 144 fps you'll generally be better in games because your response time can adapt to the faster fps.

@K E right now I'm sitting here in front of my work laptop and just beside me is my gaming rig which has a clear window on the side and I'm looking at the beast of a graphics cards, and it's saying "Play me, play me, play me, play me" - this is torture.

The good thing about it is there's no crappy RGB colour lights for me to disable, however the additional fan the guy threw in for me does have a blue light. It's not that bad though as it doesn't change colour.

Haha. Definition of torture.

My RAM is RGB and my fan has a small white light around it. I don't mind some RGB but I absolutely hate one's that look like a 16 year olds Honda Civic. My keyboard has the most RGB.

I'll try to find pics of my pc, mouse and keyboard.

That mouse (Logitech G502) is the best mouse I've ever used. It's so smooth and responsive and fits amazingly in the hand. Highly recommended it.

The Razer keyboard I have is good but it's a membrane one and not a mechanical one. For some reason I assumed it was mechanical. Not much difference but I love the click of a mechanic keyboard.

Nice, nice. It's amazing how similar our rigs are. I actually liked the look of the razor mouse and keyboard a few years ago (when I actually liked RGB on the peripherals) however due to my hatred for wires/cables I've simply gone with a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, I've got those cheap logitech wireless mouse and keyboard for non gaming use and they've served me well. Had them for 2 years? No issues and I haven't needed to chang the batteries in them.

But that mouse... Can't explain how much I love it. Even comes with weights if you like a heavy mouse.

I like about them - battery life is very long. It’s actually quite a big mouse so I’m happy with it, but took some getting used to after using a smaller wireless mouse for years lol. The thing is everyday I clear my desk of my mouse and keyboard as I set my work laptop on it so not having to disconnect them everyday is awesome.

Live from my home office.

MAIN RIG (the one I'm almost always on)
Corsair Obsidian 650D case.
i5 4670 (3.4Ghz) / 8GB RAM / GTX970
500GB Samsung SSD w 2 x 2TB in RAID 1 for storage
Logitech MX Revolution mouse and Logitech G510s keyboard.

Left hand monitor is my original 24" Samsung... awesome monitor. Right hand one is my 27" AOC. Previously was running 2 x 24" but one was having intermittent power issues.

1596113497417.png

Then there's the rest of the crew:
Most of these need rebuilding into one single machine for racing simulator.

PC1: To the left is a Coolermaster Mastercase (same as @K E ) with an ugly arsed silver DVDRW in it. That case has been hacked to make that fit and was previously used for running virtual machines. Can't recall the specs but I think video card is a GTX 480.

PC2: Up behind my suspect Samsung 24" LCD
Corsair Obsidian 350D
i5 6500 w 16GB RAM
2 x 2TB RAID 1 w 240GB SSD
DVDRW (2) and GTX 960 Video Card
Suspect motherboard or RAM.

PC3: To the right of monitor.
Corsair Obsidian 350D (incase you can't tell I like quality cases).
i7 4770 w 8GB RAM
2 x 2TB RAID 1 w 128GB SSD
DVDRW (Single)
Onboard Intel HD 4600

PC4: Far right
Antec One Hundred case
Can't recall it's specs, but it was running Linux at one stage. I think its another i5 4xxxx or i7 4xxxx. I know its the lowest specd of the lot. Was going to use it for a table arcade project but that got nuked.

There's also PC5 which is a Lian Li case, hidden away in a cupboard running Windows XP, as well as 2 x Intel NUCs running out TV upstairs and downstairs.

Racing sim is in a spare room at the moment.
